Job overview
Main duties of the job
As an Epilepsy Specialist Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert assessment, education, and management for patients with epilepsy in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You’ll work closely with neurologists, specialist nurses, multidisciplinary teams, and community partners to ensure a seamless, patient-centred pathway.
You will:
- Provide specialist clinical advice, support, and education to patients, families, and carers
- Undertake nurse-led clinics, telephone reviews, and care coordination
- Support safe and effective treatment plans, including medication optimisation
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Deliver staff training and promote best practice in epilepsy management
- Act as an advocate for patients living with epilepsy, supporting self‑management and independence
This role is ideal for nurses with a genuine interest in neurology and long-term condition management, with excellent communication skills and a passion for improving patient experience.

- Diploma in Nursing
- Degree in health-related subject

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in and knowledge of Neurology Medicine and Epilepsy
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its implementation
- Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality
- Knowledge of local/national Health and Social Care policy
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of managing complex Neurology patients
- Experience in nurse led clinics
- Experience of audit and research
- Awareness of current relevant national service frameworks / guidance
