We have an exciting and rare opportunity in Main Theatres, Royal Preston for a band 7 clinical manager for Elective Scrub.
We are seeking a full-time Band 7 Scrub Clinical Manager to join our dynamic team. This role offers a blend of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, supporting theatre teams while undertaking key leadership duties.

As Clinical Manager, you will provide professional leadership and expert guidance on quality and safety initiatives across Main Theatres. You’ll be a visible and proactive role model, driving excellence and supporting staff development.
Main Theatres comprises of 16 operating theatres and 2 interventional suites covering over 12 specialities. We are looking for a leader with the drive, passion, and vision to help shape the elective programme.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
You will oversee a range of specialties within the elective pathway including Robot, Gynaecology, Urology, Upper GI, Colorectal, Dental/Maxillofacial and ENT. You will need to have extensive scrub experience within the theatre environment along with the ability to provide strong leadership and clear direction to your team. You’ll be expected to champion research and development opportunities, driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Working alongside three peer scrub Clinical Managers you will ensure all areas of the elective theatres are safely staffed, support the Theatre Coordinator in decision-making and problem-solving and escalate concerns and issues to the Matron as appropriate.
You will play a vital role in engaging with staff and students, offering clinical supervision and expert advice to help them reach their full potential. A proactive and positive approach is essential, particularly in identifying issues and implementing standards that ensure a safe, clean, and well-organised environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As Scrub Clinical Manager, you will play a pivotal role in promoting and maintaining high clinical standards and professional practice within the theatre environment. You will provide strong leadership and clear direction, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Standards: Lead by example, monitoring and maintaining standards of care and professional practice, while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Financial Oversight: Manage specialist theatre budgets, identifying opportunities for savings and efficiencies to support cost-effective service delivery.
- Operational Planning: Maintain strong links with surgical specialties to support effective workstream planning and implementation, maximising theatre utilisation.
- Patient-Centred Care: Ensure the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care meets the personalised health and wellbeing needs of patients, aligned with the Trust’s Values, HCPC, and the Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework.
- Staff Development: Act as a role model, providing clinical supervision, guidance, and support to staff and students, helping them reach their full potential.
- Clinical Support: Work clinically to support the theatres, offering leadership and hands-on expertise to the team.
- Environment Management: Ensure the productive operation of the clinical area, maintaining a safe, clean, and organised environment.
- Policy Implementation: Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote effective and efficient theatre utilisation.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/ODP with current NMC/ HCPC Registration
- Degree in related subject or working towards
- Recognised Mentorship qualification
- Specialist qualification in scrub practice or portfolio of evidence of extensive scrub experience (scrub posts)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Leadership Course (CPM, ILM, Coaching)
Desirable criteria
- Level 4 ILM (Institute of leadership and Management) or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to perform extended clinical scrub duties
- Evidence of expert clinical competence in area of speciality
- Awareness of changes in practice and the ability to implement change.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
- Leadership Experience & Managing Teams.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of budgetary management
