We are looking to recruit Senior Healthcare Support Workers to work within our busy Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be efficient, reliable and able to work using their own initiative whilst being part of a team. You will be a motivated and confident dedicated to assisting in the delivery and the development of an excellent service.
Successful candidates may be recruited at a Band 2 until competences are met to achieve a Band 3.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.
Senior Healthcare Support Workers work independently performing a number of clinical duties/tasks following training and meeting competency within role as per policy and procedure. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties of a Healthcare Support Worker We know that no two days are the same and it’s hard to fit everything on one page, however, the following are an example of the duties our Healthcare Support Workers do every day in their role.
- Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
- Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
- Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
- Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
- Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.
- Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patient’s health and well-being or any possible risks.
- Undertake observations/tasks such as patient temperature, weighing, fluid checks as directed.
- Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
- Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.
- Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ 2 or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or willing to undertake an apprenticeship in Senior Heathcare Support Worker
- Cavendish Care Certificate
- Effective level of numeracy and literacy skills
