Job overview

We are recruiting Registered Nurses to join our busy Emergency Department  at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.

The posts are advertised as an internal rotation, on a  7 day rota including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Applicants are offered the chance to develop their skills, talents, and competencies across key acute emergency areas.

We would be delighted to receive interest from experienced nurses, and from final year nursing students approaching qualification. As a new starter you are supported by our ED  Clinical Educator who will  assist your Induction,  training and development .

We have various hours we are recruiting to via this advert, including:

2 x 37.50 hour permanent
1 x 36 hour permanent position 
1 x 36 hour fixed term until August 2027 (secondment cover)
1 x 30 hour fixed term until May 2027  (secondment cover)

Full and part time contract wills be considered. Applicants may also be considered for similar positions across our organisation. 

NHS Employees considered for temporary roles will be required to secure their manager’s agreement for a secondment arrangement prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made.  Whilst these posts are advertised on an acting / secondment basis there is the potential that they may become permanent in the future, without the need to be re-advertised. 

Main duties of the job

Working with us would give you the opportunity to develop skills in resus, majors, triage, Initial Senior and Treatment and rotation into the Urgent Treatment Centre to work alongside our Emergency Nurse Practitioners.  We are excited to be able to offer newly appointed staff an Emergency Care Preceptorship under the guidance of our Clinical Educator.  

We work closely with the ambulance service and specialist teams both within the hospital and in the community to ensure that we provide the right care, at the right time.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide the highest standards of care to our patients.
  • Performs well within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Upholds NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Adheres to Trust policies and procedures
  • Participate in all aspects of multidisciplinary audit.
  • Participate in the development and application of evidence based practice within care delivery.
  • To complete patient documentation and undertake record keeping in a timely manner, ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that information systems are maintained.
  • To provide information as required, including notification of adverse events and accidents to patients, staff and visitors.

Planning and Organisational Duties 

·       Accountable for nursing practice and takes every opportunity to sustain and improve his/her knowledge and professional competence

·       Participates in the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care relevant to patients within sphere of responsibility and under supervision.

·       To be sensitive to the needs of the patients in relation to curtesy , privacy and dignity

·       To be familiar with and adhere to Trust and Divisional objectives, policies, guidelines and current legislation.

Communications and Key Working Relationships

•    In conjunction with senior nursing staff and specialist nurses participate in the setting/monitoring and evaluation of standards of care to patients.
•    To communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and high quality care is provided to all patients 
•    Maintain effective working relationships with ward colleagues particularly those highlighted within the organisational chart above

Responsibility for Finance

•    To be aware of resources and give high quality cost effective care.

Responsibility for Human Resources

•    Adhere to Trust policies and maintenance of the professional Code of Conduct.
•    In conjunction with the ward manager, participate in induction programmes, introducing new staff to the ward and their duties. 
•    Participate in undertaking Appraisals/PDR’s for members of the support staff.

Responsibility for Teaching

•    Take personal responsibility for developing and maintain own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in conjunction with NMC guidance 
•    Attend mandatory training as directed by Trust 
•    In conjunction with the ward manager, help create and maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and students and act as a mentor in the supervision and teach of less experienced staff. 
•    To develop own teaching skills and participate in education programmes supervising unqualified nurses and students as directed
