Band 5 student midwife on the 21.5 month shortened BSc /Master of Midwifery (MMid)Shortened Programme at the University of Hertfordshire
We are recruiting Adult nurses to become student midwives and registered midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The course is funded by NHS England, paying your tuition fees and offering salary support at mid band 5 with no enhancements. You will be learning to provide midwifery care in a variety of settings under direct supervision of a midwife practice supervisor. You will attend the University of Hertfordshire for theoretical teaching.
The 21.5 month full time, BSc /Master of Midwifery (MMID) Shortened Programme at the University of Hertfordshire commences on the 4th January 2027, concludes on the 1st September 2028. You will be employed on a fixed term contract for the duration of the course.
Programme requirements to apply for the course
• Active Adult Nursing Registration (NMC Registration)
• Diploma or degree in Adult Nursing
• Proven post registration experience
• GCSE Maths and English or equivalencies or IELTS 7.
To apply for the MMID you need to have achieved 2:1 or above in your nursing degree and commit to attending all shift patterns, days nights and weekends.
Main duties of the job
Determine and provide programmes of care and support for women and their babies under direct supervision of midwives which:
• Are appropriate to the needs, contexts, culture and choices of the women, babies and their families.
• Are made in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and women.
• Are ethical
• Are based on best evidence and clinical judgement.
• Involve other practitioners when this will improve health outcomes.
Care for and monitor women during the puerperium offering the necessary evidence-based advice and support on baby and self-care.
• Antenatal
• Intrapartum
• Postnatal
Provide seamless care and interventions in partnership with women and other care providers during the antenatal period which
• Are appropriate for women’s assessed needs, context and culture
• Promote their continuing health and well-being
• Are evidence-based.
• Are consistent with the management of risk.
• Draw on the skills of others to optimise health outcomes and resource use.
Refer women who would benefit from the skills and knowledge of other individuals:
• To an individual who is likely to have the requisite skills and experience to assist.
• At the earliest possible time
• Supported by accurate, legible and complete information which contains the reasoning behind making the referral and describes their needs and preferences.
· Attend university theory and complete academic work.
