Job overview
Reporting directly to the Clinical Services Managers (CSM), the post-holder will be responsible for leading and managing the Southeast (SE) London BCG and Hep B Immunisation Teams (Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark). Responsibilities include training and mentoring new and existing staff members, managing rotas, and ensuring the delivery of a safe, effective and responsive BCG and Hepatitis B immunisation service.
The post-holder will be accountable for planning, organising, and overseeing the delivery of the BCG and Hepatitis B immunisation programmes for eligible babies, children and young people, in a variety of settings including homes, clinics, and community venues. While the role is primarily based in SE London, the post-holder may be required to work across the Southwest London area and support other immunisation teams, working flexibly where possible to provide clinic cover, including evenings or weekends if required.
In partnership with the Clinical Services Manager, the post-holder will support efforts to increase vaccination uptake, reduce inequalities, and ensure services are responsive to the needs of local communities. They will also lead the team's contribution to outbreak response in collaboration with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and Local Authorities. The post-holder will plan and provide immunisation education sessions to parents, children, and young people, as well as clinical training for healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced healthcare professional to join us as the Team Leader for the Southeast London BCG and Hepatitis B Immunisation Team (SEL BCG and Hep B Team).
In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing the BCG and Hepatitis B immunisation programmes across all six Southeast London boroughs (Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark). You will ensure the safe, effective, and timely delivery of vaccinations while maintaining the highest standards of clinical care and service performance.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading the BCG and Hepatitis B teams, including workforce planning, staffing, rota management, and coordination of clinics across the region.

Acting as one of the senior nurses for the community-based paediatric Hepatitis B home visiting service and the paediatric BCG immunisation clinics.

Planning and delivering training to new staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and consistent immunisation practice.
Clinical responsibilities include:

Assessing babies and infants for immunisation, ensuring all pre-requisites are met.

Identifying contraindications, delivering appropriate aftercare, and providing clear post-vaccination advice to parents and carers.

Ensuring safe practice in line with national guidance and local policies.

Qualifications
