Job overview

We are seeking to recruit two enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our Gynaecology Inpatient and Day Case Unit!

The post holders will provide safe, high quality, and patient centred nursing care to women undergoing elective and emergency gynaecological procedures, including day case surgery and inpatient admissions, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure dignity, privacy, and respect at all times.

Applicants must be NMC registered with good clinical knowledge in an acute care setting. Previous experience in gynaecology or surgical nursing is desirable but not essential, as a comprehensive induction and support programme will be provided. Newly qualified nurses with a strong interest in women’s health are encouraged to apply. In return, we offer a supportive working environment with opportunities for professional development and specialist skill acquisition within gynaecology services.

Main duties of the job

A Band 5 Staff Nurse in the gynaecology inpatient and day case unit provides safe, compassionate, and patient centred care to women admitted with conditions such as hyperemesis and those undergoing elective gynaecological surgery. The role includes patient assessment and monitoring, administration of intravenous fluids and medications, symptom management, pre and post operative care, pain management, wound care, early mobilisation, and discharge planning. The post holder works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, maintains accurate documentation, and supports ongoing professional development in line with Trust and NMC requirements.

Working for our organisation

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.

At gesh we are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any flexibility they may need during the recruitment process.
