An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic nurse to join our established, friendly and supportive team of Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist in Chelsea. This position is a fixed term for maternity cover. The post will focus on the holistic care of patients with primary and secondary breast cancer. If you have experience nursing breast oncology patients on treatment or clinical nurse specialist experience in the cancer pathway setting this post will be an excellent opportunity for you. The successful candidate will join an established friendly team of nurses who work closely with ANP's, the medical and research nursing teams. However, if you have not got the experience and skills as a specialist nurse, we are able to offer support to develop, and this may be reflected in the banding. Please call us for more information.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty. In addition, the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, the divisional management team and appropriate corporate directorates and teams. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and national networks as appropriate to the specialty.
- To provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient with lung cancers, acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
- To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement into the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within.
- To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve a synchronised specialist service.

- To sustain a high-quality specialist service for the patient, from diagnosis through all stages of the disease and actively provide optimum liaison and continuity of care.
- To use advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients throughout their cancer pathway
- In collaboration with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to formulate and/or revise relevant policies and to regularly review this following change/implementation. To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.
- In conjunction with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to develop assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients with complex needs are referred to the appropriate specialist/s.
- To manage an agreed caseload, using in depth knowledge of the patient / client group and acting as the key worker where appropriate.
Person specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Post graduate qualification in oncology or other speciality
- Recognised teaching/mentorship qualification
- Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards
Experience
Essential criteria
- Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology at band 6 or above
- Experience in at least one Oncological treatment modality (SACT, surgery or radiotherapy)
- Knowledge and understanding of care of patients with cancer.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Experience in Clinical Management
- Evidence of relevant teaching experience
Skills Abilities/knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of effective negotiating and influencing skills
