Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our world leading Haemato Oncology service, specialising in lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering advanced cancer care within an internationally renowned centre of excellence.

As a key clinical expert, you will:
•    Lead and deliver high quality, patient centred specialist nursing care
•    Enhance patient pathways and ensure continuity of care
•    Provide trusted guidance, support and education to patients, families and staff
•    Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to shape service development
•    Influence policy, contribute to research, and support specialist teaching

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for providing a comprehensive and high quality cancer nursing service to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will lead and provide advanced nursing 
care to patients with lymphoma, leukaemia, and myeloma, with particular responsibility for enhancing the patient’s experience of cancer treatment, ensuring continuity of care and influencing patient pathways. The post holder will be a clinical expert, sound educator, committed researcher and proficient leader.

• To communicate effectively with patients and families and use advanced clinical judgment to assess their needs and provide relevant support, information, education and advice where necessary

• To discuss all treatment options with patients with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise to enable patients to make an informed choice. To act as a patient advocate when appropriate with respect for patient confidentiality, privacy and their diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements

• To attend all relevant outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration
  • Post-registration qualification in oncology relevant to specialty
  • First Degree in health-related subject (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate diploma or relevant MSc

Education/Qualifications

  • Higher degree in health-related subject (or to undertake within a year of being in post)
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in providing clinical services to patients with cancer in an acute setting
  • Teaching experience
  • Research experience

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad understanding of cancer treatments and cancer pathways
  • Knowledge and understanding of NICE guidance and government targets relating to cancer specialty
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
  • Effective organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to deliver formal lectures to a high standard
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Advanced Practice Assessment skills, including physical assessment; history-taking; electing and recommending appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Adequate numeracy and computer literacy skills
