Practice Educator for AKI, Sepsis and Deteriorating Patient

Job overview
There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 7 Practice Educator to join the Clinical Education team focusing on Deteriorating Patient, Sepsis and AKI.
The post holder will be responsible for designing and delivering training for registered and unregistered staff in both a classroom setting and at the bedside in clinical practice on the management of deteriorating patients, Sepsis and AKI. The post holder will work collaboratively with other experts in the Trust to monitor and review patient safety incidences in relation to deteriorating patients. The post holder will ensure that the Trust is compliant with national standards for Sepsis and AKI and ensure new guidance is embedded in training and in clinical practice.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will design and deliver on training in practice, as well as study sessions for unregistered and registered nursing and AHP staff on deteriorating patients in particular Sepsis and AKI, ensuring that there is a transparent pathway and robust evaluation
- The post holder will work collaboratively with other expert teams and outreach to monitor and review patient safety incidences and engage in learning for the outcomes.
- Work with the Clinical Education team to support the development of the Nursing and Midwifery Standards (NMC) (2018) for students, newly qualified nurses, Return to Practice and International Nurses undertaking the NMC OSCEs
- Work collaboratively with the HEI’s and link lecturers to support pre-registration student placements and transition into practice for final year students and return to practice students

2.1 Clinical Education Responsibility
- Act as a specialist resource to staff regarding patient deterioration, sepsis and AKI
- Work collaboratively with other teams to provide clinical expertise and advice improve management of deteriorating patients and audits to evaluate the outcome of strategies implemented
- Leads on the education and training of staff in practice, monitoring effectiveness
- Support the development of skills and knowledge in practice for the deteriorating patient for a range of staff including students and return to practice to support the transition into practice for these groups
- Develop and support staff to be confident and competent in the management of sepsis and AKI
- Demonstrate a professional approach to work, and act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times
Person specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
- Mentorship qualification/Practice Assessor
- Simulation Train the Trainers course and/or Generic Instructors course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Sufficient post registration nursing experience including sufficient experience as a Band 6 in acute setting, oncology or haematology speciality to ensure confidence and be competent in using the required skills to do the job
- Practice Educator experience and experience in delivering education and training to staff using multiple delivery methods, e.g., classroom/online/simulation in practice/bedside
- Experience of managing deteriorating patients in practice and an in-depth understanding of Sepsis and AK
- Experience of managing acutely unwell oncology patients and experience of working in a critical care environment.
- Knowledge of SACT
Skills Abilities/knowledge
Essential criteria
- Can teach and facilitate training
- Evidence of effective interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members
- Ability to demonstrate self-motivation (working with minimal supervision)
- Evidence of assessing and supporting learners in practice undergraduate and post-graduate
- Knowledge of NMC Standards 2018
- Evidence of working cooperatively in a team
- Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
