Job overview

                        Healthy Child Programme Practice Educator

                                                Full-time post (37.5 hours)

Foster an environment which values education as part of the philosophy of the practice area. 

To support the development of appropriate skills within the Health Visiting, School Nursing and Immunisation Teams, for effective delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.    

To work in supporting and implementing local and national policies for children's services across the age range 0-19 years.   

To promote standardised working practices within the skill mix and workforce development.

To undertake a regular programme of training needs analysis with Health Visiting, School Nursing and Immunisation teams and develop a comprehensive continuous development plans.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              To support staff in achieving appropriate competencies.             

To support the recruitment and oversight of student placements, including specialist practice teachers.

To facilitate induction for students and new starters.

The post holder will establish and maintain links with academic institutions.

Act as a role model for best practice

Support individual and team practice development.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties & Responsibilities

To work with the team leaders to support excellence in clinical practice to facilitate quality service delivery and improved outcomes for children. young people and families.

To be involved in clinical supervision and advice to staff in practice. planning induction and preceptorship programmes, teaching and assessment to meet agreed national and local competencies and to support re validation for NMC registered staff.

To be involved in the development of new policies, standards and operational frameworks to support integrated working practices.
 

To provide annual audits and evaluate clinical areas to improve service users' experience and appropriate use of resources if and when required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered specialist community public health nurse (HV or SN)
  • ENB 998 Mentorship module or equivalent Educated to degree level.
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Teacher or post graduate education in teaching.

MANAGEMENT

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of managing and implementing change to practice
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead and support students through change, promoting adatabilty and positive engagement in new ways of working.and positive
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of implementing and evaluating change within a clinical or educational setting to improve practice or learning outcomes.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as a mentor of pre & post registration students, Student Health Visitors and or School Nurses
  • Able to support students through change, using reflective practice and action plans to promote learning and professional growth in line with NHS values.
  • Experience of delivering evidence based programmes.
  • Demonstrate significant relevant clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant specialist curricula.
  • Be a sign off mentor
  • Experience of leading change or contributing to change that improves student support and learning outcomes.

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the application of evidence based practice and an understanding of research process, audit cycle and quality assurance issues
  • Evidence of teaching and mentoring with a range of teaching skills and performance review
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to mediate in difficult situations.
