Job overview
Radiology Senior Clinical Support Worker
The Radiology Senior Clinical Support Worker provides vital support across all imaging areas, ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient delivery of radiological services. The role involves assisting clinical staff with patient care and movement, preparing equipment and rooms for a wide range of imaging procedures, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and ensuring an organised, well‑stocked clinical environment. Acting as an essential link between patients and the imaging team, the post holder contributes to high standards of service and patient experience through effective communication, reassurance, and a professional, compassionate approach.
Key responsibilities include supporting radiographers, sonographers, and radiologists during examinations and procedures, preparing and cleaning specialist equipment, and monitoring patient observations such as blood pressure and heart rate. The post holder will also report equipment faults, handle specimens, perform basic quality assurance checks, and participate in infection control and audit activities. Flexibility, teamwork, and adherence to Trust policies are essential, as the role requires responding calmly to changing workloads and maintaining safe, effective care under pressure.

Main duties of the job
· Assist radiology staff in the provision of radiology services and assist Radiologists in specialised areas of work.
· To provide chaperone support for Sonographers and Radiologists during Ultrasound examination – working on a rota cover 7-day working.
· To ensure the clinical rooms are tidy and prepared for clinical examinations
· To assist radiographers during Radiology examinations.
· Provide patient care and answer any questions.
· Provide administration support to staff, ensuring smooth patient flow though the department.
· Perform simple medical procedures for example cannulation and observations, once appropriately trained and documenting as appropriate.
· Maintain the professional standards of the department and undertakes a range of delegated radiography-related duties

Working for our organisation
Croydon Health Services provides integrated NHS services to care for people at home, in schools, and health clinics across the borough as well as at Croydon University Hospital, Purley War Memorial Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre in New Addington. CUH provides more than 100 specialist services and is home to the borough’s only Emergency Department and 24/7 maternity services, including a labour ward, midwifery-led birth centre and the Crocus home birthing team.
Purley War Memorial Hospital in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery. The New Addington site is based in the south-eastern side of the borough and offers outpatient and GP imaging in x-ray, ultrasound and CT, alongside various respiratory and cardiology outpatient services, alongside an onsite GP surgery.
The Radiology Department is undergoing significant investment in new equipment, with 8 new ultrasound units, a Cone Beam CT dental unit, plain x-ray room and a CT replacement all occurring within 2025/26.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Educated to A levels or equivalent or NVQ 3 in Customer care or Patient Care
Desirable criteria
- IV cannulation certificate or willingness to work towards
- Care certificate
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and ability of how to navigate customised computer systems, such as RIS, EPR
- Knowledge of good clinical care skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the importance of dignity and respect of the patients
- Understanding of team dynamics and ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
- Understanding of healthcare working and/or radiography including radiation protection
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of current Health service trends that affect the service.
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with patients in a clinical setting.
- Previous healthcare experience
- Experience of working with computer systems such as Microsoft office
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in similar post

- Previous experience working in a radiology department
- Experience of handling confidential information
