Main duties of the job

As a Ward Manager in a Frailty Assessment Unit (Amber Unit), you will be responsible for  the day-today management of the unit, ensuring that high standards of patient care are delivered to older adults with complex medical needs. This role involves managing a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, healthcare support workers, therapists (Admission Avoidance Team) and doctors, to asses and manage frail patients, often with multiple co-morbidities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

Clinical Leadership: Providing leadership and support to the team, ensuring that evidence-based care is delivered effectively and safely.

Staff Management: Supervising and mentoring staff, conducting appraisals, and ensuring proper training and development.

Patient Care Oversight: Overseeing the assessment and management of frail patients, ensuring they receive personalized care plans to optimize their health and well-being.

Collaborative Working: Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and improve patient outcomes.

Operational Management: Managing bed capacity, patient flow and resources effectively to ensure smooth unit operations.

Education & Professional Qualifications / Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Post basic nursing qualification in a related nursing specialty
  • • Teaching qualifications or evidence of ability to teach
  • • Educated to degree level or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Registered Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • • Significant experience at Band 6 level
  • • Evidence of leadership skills
  • • Experience of working in the acute inpatient setting

Skills and Aptitudes / Personal Qualities /Values

  • • Knowledge of current clinical developments within nursing and ability to prioritize workload
  • • Knowledge of being an accountable practitioner who will act as a role model
  • • Experience in completing Healthroster to meet the key performance indicators
