Job overview
The Band 8a colposcopy CNS and Lead Nurse is an advanced clinical leader responsible for the clinical management of the colposcopy service across all sites.
The role combines advanced autonomous clinical practice, leadership, management, education and training, alongside research and audit - ensuring the delivery of high quality, patient centred, evidence based care in line with the NHS Cervical Screening Programme standards and national guidance
Main duties of the job
- Lead and co-manage the colposcopy service, ensuring the delivery of a high quality patient centred service in line with NHSCSP and BSCCP standards
- Practice autonomously as an advanced colposcopist, undertaking assessment, diagnosis, treatment (inc LLETZ where accredited) and follow up of women referred with abnormal cervical screening results
- Provide expert clinical advice
- Act as a clinical expert resource for nursing, medical and MDT colleagues
- Ensure compliance with national cervical screening programme standards, quality assurance requirements and local governance frameworks
- Lead clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service efficiency
- Provide professional leadership, supervision and line management to the colposcopy nursing team, including recruitment, appraisal and performance management
- Lead preparation for internal and external quality assurance reviews
- Deliver and support education and training for staff, students and trainee colposcopists

- Registered General Nurse
- Relevant diploma / first degree
- Appropriate teaching certificate or extensive teaching experience

Experience

- Substantial experience in a senior nurse operational role in an acute NHS setting
- Experience in running nurse led colposcopy clinics
