Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Ward Manager to provide clinical and operational leadership for our inpatient ward at Finchley Memorial Hospital. The successful candidate will lead and support the nursing team to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred care while promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.

The Ward Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ward, ensuring high standards of care, effective team performance, and continuous service improvement. Working closely with the MDT, Matron, and Clinical Lead, you will drive quality, support staff development, and ensure patients receive seamless, compassionate care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate nurse leader who is committed to developing others, enhancing patient outcomes, and shaping the future of the service through innovation, collaboration, and strong clinical leadership.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide visible clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care for patients with complex health needs.
  • Take overall responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care within the ward, ensuring high standards of care and patient experience
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, community services, social care, and other key partners to ensure seamless, coordinated care and effective discharge planning.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients through effective risk assessment, safeguarding practices, infection prevention and control, and adherence to clinical governance requirements.
  • Support patients, families, and carers by providing information, guidance, and involvement in care planning and decision-making.
  • Be responsible for the performance, supervision, and development of ward staff, ensuring appropriate support, appraisal, and performance management processes are in place
  • Work closely with the Matron and Clinical Lead to support service development, achieve quality and performance targets, and ensure the efficient use of resources while delivering high-quality patient-centred care.

This version reads much more like a modern NHS Band 7 Ward Manager job description and aligns with inpatient ward leadership responsibilities at Finchley Memorial Hospital.
