Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Band 6 Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Radiology team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a high-acuity, procedure-based environment delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures including pre-assessment, intra-procedural care and post-procedure recovery. You will work closely with other nurses, radiologists, radiographers and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of clinical practice and patient safety.

You will be an NMC-registered nurse with relevant acute, critical care, theatre, endoscopy  or interventional experience, strong clinical skills and the ability to lead, support and supervise junior staff. The role includes participation in on-call services, audit, service development and teaching.

Main duties of the job

·        - Provide expert nursing care during interventional radiology procedures, including vascular and non-vascular interventions under local anaesthesia or conscious sedation.

·      -   Undertake patient pre-assessment, consent checks, and preparation for procedures.

·      -   Monitor, evaluate and implement patient care pre, intra-procedurally and during recovery, ensuring safety and comfort.

·       -  Administer prescribe medications.

·      -   Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to legal and professional standards.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Nursing or Equivalent with current
  • NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in Radiology or Interventional radiology
  • Teaching and assessment training/qualification
  • Leadership and management training/qualification

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as a band 5 or 6 nurse,
  • Experience of teaching, supervising and assessing students, new or junior members of staff
  • Knowledge of procedures undertaken within Interventional Radiology
  • Knowledge and experience of caring for sedated patients
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in Radiology, Theatres or Endoscopy
  • Experience within the Diverse environment
  • Awareness of health and safety including IRR and IRMER regulations
