Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our busy Eye team at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals together with community clinics.  The post- holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialise ophthalmic nursing service and carry out specialist nursing procedures. 

The post-holder will be a key member of staff in participating in the improvement of care of patient attending the Ophthalmology unit; they will work autonomously and are accountable for their own professional actions

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Ensure that nursing care within the ward is of a high standard and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.

2. Maintain individual patient care systems, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patients’ physical, social, and psychological needs are met.

3. Assist with the introduction and implementation of new ideas and methods of nursing care, including research methods.

4. Communicate with relatives as always required and ensure a good public image.

5. Ensure that ordering, storage administration and documentation of drugs are in accordance with Trust policy.

6. Maintain individual patient care plans, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patient’s physical, social, and psychological needs are met.

7. Participate in all department activities as an effective team member, supporting the Charge Nurse and Matron, taking delegated team leadership responsibilities.

8.To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and to act as a role model to junior staff.

 

9. Ensure all patients pre-assessed have their surgery is within the breach date by liaising with multi-disciplinary team to ensure timely ordering of treatments etc.

 

10. Pre-assessment clinics are nurse-led to ensure patients are fully informed of procedure to be undertaken and to ensure patients are fully fit for surgery.
