Whether you're looking to build new skills or take your experience to the next level, we are uniquely placed to provide the right environment to support your professional development. With colleagues working in people’s homes, in community clinics, and in our two hospitals, we have an outstanding breadth of knowledge and experience to draw from.

Our commitment to exceptional care is reflected in being the first trust of our kind in London to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC for both overall quality and leadership. We exist to provide the best possible care for our patients and we do that by giving our colleagues what they need to be their best at work. We have won numerous awards from the HSJ and Nursing Times for the way we support our colleagues across all our services.

We are proud to be recognised for our outstanding cancer care, children's services, pioneering surgical teams, and exceptional rehabilitation services. Our maternity services have been rated the "Best in London" by women surveyed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with parents travelling to Kingston to take advantage of our considerable experience and expertise.

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Midwife with a special interest in safeguarding to join the Bridge Team and support the maternity team in providing high levels of adult and child safeguarding services.

Kingston Maternity is a popular service with approximately 4600 births per annum.  The most recent National Maternity Survey rated Kingston in the top five best performing maternity services within London.  The Care Quality Commission rated Kingston Hospital’s Maternity Service as Good in 2022 and the Trust ‘outstanding’ in 2019, with staff positive about the hospital and the services they were able to offer women and their families.

The service is established to a Birthrate+ recommended ratio of midwives to women of 1:24 enabling high quality midwifery focused care to be provided.

The Bridge Team consists of specialist midwives in safeguarding and perinatal mental health. The team is supported by a maternity support worker and lead by a Named Midwife.

Our service provides specialist support for midwives caring for women who have complex safeguarding in pregnancy and the postnatal period.

Please note: "This is a 1-year fixed-term role, which may conclude earlier should the post holder return from maternity leave sooner."

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the monthly Bridge Team newsletter and will be supported to facilitate training for the maternity staff on their mandatory study day.

Our service needs a motivated and inspirational individual to join the Bridge Team as a Band 7 to help lead the service forward. The expectation is that you will be already working at an advanced level, with a wide range of clinical skills and can support junior staff whilst ensuring quality care provision to women. You will be able to communicate with all staff groups, have a strong ethos around delivering high standards of care and be willing to take part in the managerial and leadership activities at a Band 7 level. They will provide expert, specialist knowledge and resources for women under the care of the Bridge Team during their pregnancy, childbirth and the post-natal period.  The role will provide visible leadership, be evidence based and holistic in meeting women’s individual needs.  The post holder will be expected to work autonomously within guidelines and sphere of professional practice as well as providing education to women and their families and health professionals, in line with local policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards, the NMC Code and current public health guidance.

If you are a passionate midwife with excellent communication skills and a special interest in safeguarding, please do not hesitate to apply to join our team.
