Job overview
In this part time post the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the patients’ adnexal condition at the first point of contact, providing autonomous practice which demonstrates high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level, delivering high-quality direct patient care, making critical medical and surgical decisions and providing treatment based on advanced clinical skills assessment and non-medical prescribing.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Adnexal Team; Consultant, Medical Consultants, Senior Nurses and Health Support Worker and the Matron and wider Trust to deliver high quality, safe effective care and experience to patient, families and carers.
The post holder will provide advanced ophthalmic nursing care in accordance with evidence-based practice, legislation, policies, and procedures.
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner should continuously seek to develop and implement improvement, meet key performance indicators, quality and safety standards relevant to the service. Exercise advance clinical expertise, use discretion and judgement in decision making as an autonomous practitioner

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Practice autonomously demonstrating high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level, delivering high-quality direct patient care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment.
With support from the Nurse Consultant, be responsible for a caseload of patients surgically and managing new and review nurse led clinics in-person and via telemedicine.
Work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. of history-taking, holistic assessment, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments, requesting, undertaking and/or interpreting diagnostic tests, and conducting health needs assessments).
Assess, diagnosis and treat patients, develop treatment plans within set guidelines, and record clinical findings using the department information systems, when necessary, collaborate with the multi-professional and/or scrutinise and refer to the senior clinical colleagues as appropriate.
Challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to the patient, maintaining and monitoring high standards of care, recognising and responding proactively to patients’ changing clinical needs.
Maintain professional competence, authority and credibility by undertaking regular clinical sessions in line with your job plan (Appendix 2) and being highly visible to patients, carers and staff, actively seeking feedback about the quality of services. Collaborate in the establishment and monitoring of protocols/care pathways.

- Registered Nurse Degree in health-related subject
- PG Cert: Clinical Ophthalmic Practice or equivalent
- Msc in Advance practice or working towards
- Non-Medical prescriber course
- Management qualification /experience
- Leadership course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working autonomously in an advanced nursing role in Ophthalmology at a Band 7 or above
- Workforce planning

- Worked as clinical nurse specialist in Specialist Service
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Advanced clinical practice skills: experienced in carrying out Nurse led Minor operations as part of the Adnexal pathway
- Administration and management of patients requiring Botulinum Toxin treatment, New Lacrimal,. PostOperative and Telemedicine Clinic
- Ability to lead staff and manage change effectively Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
