An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, innovative, and forward-thinking individual to join the team at The Royal London Dental Hospital, part of the Surgical Division. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional for the role of Lead Dental Nurse / Charge Nurse, overseeing services within the Dental Institute and Dental Outreach network.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious dental nurse who is ready to take the next step in their career. The role offers a platform to enhance your leadership skills and professional development, with a clear focus on service improvement, clinical excellence, and patient safety.
As Lead Dental Nurse / Charge Nurse, you will play a vital role in the operational leadership of the dental network, ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of services. You will contribute to quality improvement initiatives, lead on clinical governance matters, and work closely with the wider directorate to maintain the highest standards of care. A key part of this role involves working collaboratively with other providers and partner agencies to support business planning and service development.
Patient safety lies at the heart of everything we do, and you will be responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, evidence-based care. 

Main duties of the job

The Lead Dental Nurse will have clinical and management responsibility for dental nursing across a number of departments within the Dental Hospital and sites networked to the Dental Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, Sir Ludwig Guttman Dental Outreach, Barkantine Dental Outreach and Southend Academic Dental Outreach, liaising with  multidisciplinary staff of the dental Institute, the wider trust and external agencies where appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • National Certificate of the Examining Board for Dental Nurses or equivalent.
  • Evidence of a commitment to CPD.
  • Management Course /Degree or be willing to undertake relevant course.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of undertaking a post registration course e.g. Radiography, Sedation and Oral Health.
  • NEBDN Witness Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant Post Registration experience in relevant specialty.
  • • Experience in leadership and management
  • • Experience of supporting learning in practice
  • • Evidence in supporting the professional and personal needs of an individual and teams
  • • Experience in Counseling staff in relation to disciplinary and sickness absence issues.
  • • Experience of providing Personal Development Reviews to staff
  • • Experience of clinically managing a service or undergraduate department
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of involvement in QI work

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understands the importance and relevance of nursing research and uses this to improve clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of nursing care methods and models.
  • Sound overall knowledge of caring for patients with problems related to a wide range of general dental disorders especially in Orthodontics, Oral Medicine/Surgery, OMFS.
  • Knowledge of health care need in a multiracial society
