Neonatal Staff Nurse

5

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.

Job overview

Whipps Cross neonatal unit is a small and busy local neonatal unit (level 2). We have 18 cots and serve a maternity unit delivering 5,000 babies yearly.

We focus on family and ensuring that babies leave here with parents who are emotionally and physically ready. We are highly motivated, and this translates into high breast-feeding rates among discharged babies, and excellent service user satisfaction.

Our nursing team is a blend of experienced band 7’s, 6’s and nursery nurses, as well as less experienced band 5 nurses. We actively encourage professional development and our practice development nurse co-ordinates educational opportunities for all staff, according to their needs and special interests.

We maintain good relations within our own team, and with all other disciplines. These relations are based upon trust, respect and the shared goal of doing our best for families in our care.

We have close links with Newham and Royal London hospitals neonatal units and share teaching and learning across these three sites and the wider neonatal network. We serve an ethnically and economically diverse population and as a result, our work is very varied and interesting

Whipps Cross is situated on the northeast edge of London. There are good transport links by road and large staff car parking areas on site. The nearest tube is Leytonstone (15 mins walk). Several bus routes enter the hospital grounds. The hospital borders the edge of Epping Forest where there are safe routes for cycling, running and walking,
