We are currently recruiting for a band 7 Senior sister/Charge Nurse to join our dynamic and friendly Paediatric Critical Care team at the Royal London Hospital, to provide high quality and professional care for children and their families.

 We are a tertiary referral centre accepting admissions from north east London and further afield to support the increasing demand for Paediatric critical care.

Our unit consists of 10 beds and we look after a mix of intensive care and highly dependent babies, children and young people. As a major trauma centre, we play a vital role in caring for all children 0-16 years . We deal daily with emergency and elective surgical admissions so can provide a varied experience for you. 

 We pride ourselves on being a caring, compassionate and friendly unit delivering high quality care.

       The Postholder will lead by example as an expert specialist nurse and provide expert clinical, organizational and professional leadership to the nursing team. As an expert practitioner in Paediatric Intensive Care, the post holder will be responsible for setting and maintaining a high standard of nursing care to children and their families.at Unit level, setting and delivering high standards of clinical care.

* Demonstrate specialist knowledge, skills and expertise in clinical practice.

Ensure the process of nursing is developed to meet the individual needs of each patient, providing well documented assessment, care planning and evaluation.

 * Accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the child’s condition, instigating appropriate remedial action and promptly reporting changes.

 * Provides technically skilled nursing care that is sensitive, relevant and responsive to the needs of the individual child/young person in liaison with their parent/carers

 * Provide leadership and management to the staff team at all times ensuring effective use of human resources on the ward to ensure safe and efficient service delivery

 * To review staffing levels and patient dependency continuously in order to assist the Lead Nurse with planning resources efficiently and effectively within the service.

 * Ensure that a child and family-centred approach to care is provided in inpatient areas, which takes account of children’s individual medical, psychological, emotional and social needs.

 

8.    Ensure children and families/carers’ views are sought and taken into account in the decision making process, acting as an advocate for vulnerable children with complex clinical and psychological needs.

  • RSCN / RN Child with current NMC registration
  • Educated to degree level or working towards.
  • Paediatric Intensive Care Course/415 or equivalent
  • Preparation for Mentorship course or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • Leadership course / development programme

Experience

  • 18 months experience at band 6 within a Paediatric Critical Care
  • Experience of working within a Level 3 Unit
