We currently have vacancies at our Health Based Place Of Safety (HBPoS) and are looking for Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurses who are looking for a new challenge to work within our HBPoS based at St. Charles Hospital in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea with good transport links.

The post holder will oversee nursing procedures to a standard that ensures safe and effective care and complies with The Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Professional Conduct. There is an expectation that the post holder will place the needs of service users at the centre of care delivery in accordance with the Pan London 136 Guidance and relevant Trust Policies. The HBPoS Manager will be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas providing assistance, advice and support to staff, patients, relatives, carers & visitors.

We are a 24/7 service & we are staffed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team. The Health based Place of Safety service (HBPOS) is one of the points of admission in the Trust for all persons requiring care in a hospital-based place of safety.

Main duties of the job

HBPOS team is responsible for:

  • Providing care to persons admitted to the Place of Safety in accordance with the Place of Safety Care Pathway.
  • Facilitating a Mental Health Act assessment within a specified time frame.
  • Formulating a discharge or transfer plan that provides the appropriate level of on-going care.
  • Ensuring the safety & wellbeing of all users of the service.

In addition to the above you will be expected to adopt the “Bleep Holder Role” as required where you will act as the Unit Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Registered on the NMC register, Mental Health
  • Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone and writing letters and reports
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
  • Able to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others assertively where necessary
  • IT Skills: Able to maintain electronic patient records. Use Microsoft Word for letter and report writing
  • Nursing Skills: You are expected to have the skills required to act as a professional, registered nurse and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Work well with other members of the team including communicating effectively, being kind and considerate, reliable and enthusiastic.
  • Help others in the team achieve their objectives and deliver safe, effective care
  • Mentor, teach and support others in the team
  • Supervise others in the team
  • Contribute to the culture of the team and play a role in making it inclusive, kind and hard working

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • You need previous experience of working in the community / mental health services either as a nurse, a student nurse or health care assistant.
