Our Adult Emergency Department is  looking to recruit professional and enthusiastic Band 6 Charge Nurse/Sister. We take great pride in being part of a top performing Trust and top performing Emergency Department.

With strong nursing leadership, a dedicated ED Matron team and  Professional Development nurses to guide and support you in conjunction with an allocated mentor. We provide high quality emergency care and give structured support and development to all our nurses including a tailored induction at the start.

As a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse you will be expected to take responsibility for shift leadership and management of the department as delegated by the Matrons.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a kind and compassionate attitude, with the skills and experience to lead effective and efficient urgent and emergency care practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Co-Ordinate areas within the ED including the UTC, Majors and Resus area. Carry out front door Triage, deliver patient care where required with clinical skills suitable for the ED such as V&C, Plastering, ALS etc. 

Person specification

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • RGN qualification
  • Proven and current experience in the Emergency Medicine setting.
  • Post-registration A&E course or equivalent study
  • Working towards degree level or evidence of equivalent health care related study
  • Hold registered mentor or teaching/ education qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards: Degree/Masters level study.
  • Current Certification in:Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma, Nursing Course.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration emergency nursing experience.
  • Currently working as band 5 level in the Emergency Department or emergency setting.
  • Leadership or management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with an electronic patient record and other basic IT systems.
  • Experience of working within an urgent care setting

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Experience of Nursing the Trauma Patient
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
  • IT skills e.g., word, excel, outlook and hospital database experience.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload.
  • Able to anticipate stressful situations and to act to minimise the stress and to support those involved, arranging debriefing sessions when necessary
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Awareness of current NHS issues & appreciation of the issues surrounding governance & quality initiatives.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure, and prioritise demands.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in coordinating a department
