As a Band 6 Colorectal Straight to Test Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will be responsible in supporting the Faster Diagnosis Standard / Two-Week Wait GI Clinic in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through delivery of highquality care, including specialist nursing advice for colleagues and patients. As acentre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to well-being of patients referred in the Urgent suspected cancer pathway.

You will deliver evidenced based practice, clinical diagnostic protocols, and use highly advanced communication skills in supporting patients throughout thediagnostic pathway; using advanced clinical assessment skills to ensure relevant clinical information is available to the multi disciplinary team.

You will use specialist nursing knowledge to review and interpret all clinical investigatory results and determine next pathway stage; including discharge and referral back to GP, or referral to specialist services as required.

You will demonstrate a higher level of practice through the provision of specialist nursing knowledge and expertise in the delivery of diagnostic pathways, including all GI (Gastrointestinal) suspected cancer, if needed to cover other specialty.

You will be responsible for the timely and accurate triage of GP referral for suspected colorectal cancer, in line with national cancer referral guidelines.

  • Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care for patients being referred on GI Faster Diagnosis Standard/ Two week wait pathway assessed, co-ordinated or cared for within ICHT and in liaison with the multidisciplinary team and other health agencies.
  • To perform an effective key role within the Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) team to deliver an effective and seamless 2 week wait pathway for patients.
  • To support the Trust in achieving compliance with Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) and Referral to Treatment (RTT) waiting time targets.
  • To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within ICHT and externally.
  • To update own clinical and specialist knowledge, including attendance of necessary modules such as Clinical Assessment and History Taking.
  • To work with senior colleagues to contribute to audit processes, and be involved in nursing research with published outcomes.
  • To work with the senior LGI nursing team to help formulate an annual report/clinical audit of own CNS service and outcomes.
  • To work with the senior team members to be involved in the development of the service locally and nationally.

  • Evidence of Masters Level learning or willing to work towards relevant Masters level studies.
  • Colorectal disease (including cancer), endoscopy and/ or surgical nursing experience. Research qualification.

Experience

  • Evidence of teaching experience, either formally or in informal settings.
  • Evidence of recent continuous personal and professional development.
  • Knowledge of NHS operational and strategic issues and their impact on colorectal services.
  • Understanding and knowledge of common gastroenterology and colorectal symptoms/ conditions/ disease
