Job overview

This post is based in the Haematology & Oncology Therapy Team which supports inpatients treated at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at the Hammersmith Hospital site. 

The aim of the post is to assist and support the team in providing high quality therapy management for patients receiving physiotherapy and occupational therapy to maximise independence and assist with safe discharge planning.

The post holder will be responsible for and manage a delegated clinical caseload. A registered therapist will provide support and supervision. The post holder will work with autonomy and make decisions within a protocol.

We are looking for someone who is an effective communicator with a flexible approach to team working. In addition, they will be professional, efficient, effective and committed to continuous professional development. Training will be available for all the competencies that are required to carry out the role. In return, we expect the post holder to be fully engaged and motivated.

This is a part-time (15 hours per week) role which is fixed term (ending on 18th September 2026).

Main duties of the job

 

  • To assist the therapists to deliver patient care and treatments.
  •  To be responsible for and manage a delegated clinical caseload including review of cases
    as necessary.
  • To assist in the provision of wheelchairs and specialist seating for patients.
  • To achieve and maintain competencies through skills and knowledge development.
  •  To perform non-clinical and administrative duties within the department, as required.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • General Education to A level or equivalent and/or NVQ level 3 Promoting Independence/Care/AHP support worker or equivalent Health Apprenticeship qualification/Vocational training qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further education/study in health or social sciences / related subject
  • Care certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous significant experience as a therapy assistant or equivalent in a health care setting.
  • Previous experience of effective multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Experience of administrative work e.g. data collection and management
Desirable criteria
  • Previous work in an acute hospital environment
  • Knowledge of a variety of therapy approaches in different professions.
  • Experience of working in the National Health Service.
  • Experience working with adults with acquired cognitive/ communication difficulties and/or challenging behaviour

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills – data entry (e.g. PAS), Word/Excel/PPT
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of communication aids / iPad apps to support therapy
