Charge Nurse/Sister - Clarke ward & SAU

Band 6

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) is one of the largest integrated NHS Trusts in the country. Our team of more than 8,000 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of approximately one million people providing hospital and community services to the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond.

As well as delivering community services across four London boroughs from multiple sites we run major acute hospital services at:

  • Northwick Park Hospital: home to one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E) in the country. The hospital provides a full range of services including the country’s top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK
  • St Mark’s Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for colorectal disease
  • Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre
  • Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, which also offers a range of outpatient services and urgent care centre.

We also provide specialist care at Meadow House Hospice.  We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.

We are looking to recruit Band 6 Charge Nurses/Sisters to help in the effective and efficient day-to-day running on our elective surgery ward- Clarke ward. You will also rotate to our sister unit- the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) and help to manage its day to day running and ensure its effective operation.

They will actively help to ensure the delivery of a high standard and quality of patient care and be prepared to challenge and address poor practice, to ensure harm-free patient care.

They may be required to deputise for the Clinical Nurse Manager form time-to time. Active participation in audit & service improvement required. A working knowledge of clinical governance is required.

Clarke ward is a 19 bedded ward catering for elective surgery patients.

SAU is located over 3 floors in the old TAU block and has a variety of trolley spaces, assessment rooms, a prodecure room and a waiting area and caters for a variety of surgical specialities (General Surgery, ENT, OMFS, Urology, Orthopaedic, Vascular & Gynaecology).

The post holders will be registered nurses with surgical nursing experience and current NMC registration.  Good communication skills (written & verbal) and the ability to work as part of and to lead a team are essential, as is the ability to use own initiative.

Willingness to undertake further personal professional development relevant to the service essential. A teaching and assessing qualification would be desirable but not essential.

Candidates must possess IV Drug Administration and Cannulation & Venepuncture competencies.
