Research Nurse

Band 6

The Lambeth Drug and Alcohol Treatment Consortium, led by The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provides assessment, treatment and advice for people, aged over 18, who have substance misuse related problems. Lambeth is a densely populated diverse area with high levels of alcohol and drug dependence.

We are looking for a Research Nurse to work alongside the opioid team in a new clinical trial (the EXPO trial). The EXPO Trial is a multi-site randomised control trial comparing extended release buprenorphine depot injection with treatment as usual opioid substitution therapy medications (methadone and sublingual buprenorphine). Depot medications for opioid use disorder are new to the UK and this research will make an important contribution to the addiction research field.

The Research Nurse will play a key role in facilitation of this study, such as collecting and interpreting biological samples, administration of depot injections, and other trial measures. Previous experience in research or clinical work in addictions is desirable, as is training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The successful candidate will work with clinical teams in research and with opioid dependent patients. They will possess good organisational and time management skills, and will be familiar with networked computer systems such as electronic patient records. They will be enthusiastic, responsible, and with the ability to work independently as well as part of a busy team.

The successful candidate will have a chance to work alongside pioneering research academics and an experienced clinical research team. This post will offer excellent opportunities for qualified professionals looking to develop their skills in this area. They will receive supervision from a senior research nurse and will join the clinical research team for the weekly planning and clinical meeting.
