Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit an experienced Named Nurse, Safeguarding Children, to join a well-established Safeguarding Team. This is a maximum 10 months fixed contract for maternity cover.

 

The right individual must have an acute trust background and be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge of current safeguarding children legislation, guidance and practice as well as being enthusiastic, motivated and highly experienced

 

The post holder will be instrumental in ensuring that there effective safeguarding arrangements and practice for our most vulnerable children admitted under our care.  You will be responsible for providing excellent visible leadership, knowledge and expertise in relation to the safeguarding of children, promoting good practice, whilst keeping children at the heart of all professional practice.

 

As well as working closely with our multi-agency partners, the post holder will be expected to participate in initiatives to facilitate collaborative working.

 

If you are a Registered Children’s Nurse, (Part 1 of the NMC Register), with a degree in a related subject and recently or currently working in a safeguarding children’s post at band 8a, in an acute hospital setting, then this is a good opportunity for you.

We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year. 

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Children’s Nurse (NMC Register)
  • First level degree in nursing or health care related subject.
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in a related subject.

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Have a minimum of 2 recent years in an acute environment at 8a level related to the safeguarding children and young people.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in chairing meetings.

Skills/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to build personal and professional credibility at all levels of the organisation as well as with external partners.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing or leading the Child Death Review process.
