Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse to join Gynaecology Outpatients team located in King George and Queens Hospital. You will need to be experienced manager who will provide strong and confident leadership to our team. The right candidate will need to clearly demostrate visible, empathetic and kind leadership skills as well as a working knowledge of HR processes and roster management across both sites.  You will need to have high standards of care as well as best interests for our team.  In return for your leadership and support we offer excellent personal and professional develepment and supportive leadership team to ensure you succeed in your role.

Main duties of the job

You will provide visible, compassionate, and effective leadership within our Gynaecology Outpatient Department—a busy and dynamic unit operating across both King George Hospital (Laurel) and Queen’s Hospital. This pivotal role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across a range of specialist clinics.

Working closely with the Lead Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Pre-Assessment team, and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and professional development of the nursing team. You will be expected to demonstrate kind, fair, and inclusive leadership, promoting a culture of respect, safety, and continuous improvement.

This role requires a high level of professional autonomy and a sound understanding of local policies, clinical guidelines, and governance frameworks. You will take an active leadership role in service development initiatives, quality improvement projects, and support ongoing staff development through effective mentorship, regular appraisals, and performance review processes.

Your presence will reflect the Trust’s values in action—ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate, and high-standard care while empowering staff to thrive in a positive and supportive environment.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and, in recognition of our progress, we’ve been shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the Health Service Journal Awards.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
