Sister - Olayan Day Care (Oak)

An opportunity has arisen within Olayan Day Care Unit at the Oak Cancer Centre, Sutton for a Band 7 Sister, and we are seeking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys the challenges and advantages of working within a busy day care setting. Leadership skills and the ability to co-ordinate all functions of a day unit as well as being able to exercise good clinical judgement are key skills for the role.

The post holder would be expected to be a role model providing strong clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and which ensures high quality safe care for patients. 
Facilitating and supporting the clinical learning environment to enable staff to continuously develop professional skills and abilities is central to the role.

The post holder would be expected to manage resources within the clinical area within budgetary limitations. Training and support are provided.

To create and maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for all patients and their families who come to the area. To co-ordinate all functions and activities proactively within the designated clinical environment.

To manage resources of clinical area within budgetary limitations eg. finance, equipment and staff (including temporary staff).

To provide strong clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care.


To support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.

Manage a co-ordinated day care nursing Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) service in liaison with all members of the multi-disciplinary team maximising high quality patient care.

To maintain clinical credibility through practice and to utilise the findings of nursing research and evidence-based care to optimise high quality patient care.

To monitor and review nursing practice regularly, participating in audits which must include documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC Guidelines.

Within the framework of Team Nursing, to maintain the continuity of quality nursing care that responds flexibly to patients’ and carers’ needs and includes a pathway to the community or relevant care setting

  • Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent) Recognised teaching qualification
  • Recognised chemotherapy qualification

Experience

  • Experience in intravenous drug administration
  • Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
  • Experience in chemotherapy administration

  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management
