Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic staff to come and join our friendly and supportive Recovery team at St Georges Hospital.  We are interested in hearing from staff with minimum 2 years of previous experience in recovery, PACU or critical care.

St Georges are proud to have recently set up our Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) within St James’ recovery. Here we are able to provide evidence-based enhanced recovery care that enables our patients to recover quicker, improve their outcome and reduce their length of stay in hospital. You will be part of our extensive team of nurses caring for patients postoperatively from a wide range of surgery including thoracic, bariatric, urology, gynae, vascular, renal transplants, ENT/maxfax, Neuro and also paediatrics.  As one of the only 2 hospitals in London with a helipad, we also provide a 24/7 major trauma, emergency (CEPOD) and obstetric theatre service where we can treat the most seriously ill patients from across the SE of England.

You will regularly take charge of the unit and as an effective leader and role 

All applicants must be a Registered Nurse, with extensive post registration experience at Band 5 or above within recovery .the    You must be flexible, possess excellent communication and organizational skills. If you are looking to develop your managerial, clinical and decision making skills we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

 You must be committed to learning and development and willing to take additional responsibilities. As a key member of the team, you will have the ability to support, teach and develop junior staff necessary to lead a safe environment.

You must also have good communication and leadership  skills 

We will support your development every step of the way and make sure that you are armed with the skills you need to meet every challenge you will face by providing you with the highest standards of training and support on the job through:

             Regular meetings with your Team Leader and Matron

  • Mentor support during your induction and orientation
  • Support from your team leader and senior staff in the clinical area on shift
  • Protected teaching time each week
  • Practice Educator support
  • Competency based In house training
  • Opportunities to apply for funded specialist courses
