St George's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and ambitious Lead Nurse Colposcopist to collaboratively lead our colposcopy service and drive the development of our nurse colposcopists' team. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience of the colposcopy service and national screening requirements set by NHS England and the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Practice: Ensure the highest standard of evidence-based clinical care in line with NHSCSP guidelines for all patients attending Colposcopy Clinics.
- Leadership: Take a lead role in clinical colposcopy-related enquiries from Cytologists, Pathologists, GPs, and other clinicians. Provide emergency cover to prevent clinic cancellations at short notice.
- Management: Manage day-to-day care for all patients in the clinical area, continually develop, implement, and evaluate the Lead Nurse Colposcopist role.
- Education and Research: Influence patient care through clinical practice, leadership, education, research, and audit. Support and guide colposcopy trainees as a recognized Colposcopy Trainer.
- Human Resources: Take responsibility for the Colposcopy service and nursing staff working across the service/site.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Current Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration.
- Practice independently as a nurse colposcopist, accredited by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
- Exceptional clinical capability and experience in Colposcopy services.
- Hold or be working towards a Master’s degree in a related subject.
Salary and Benefits:
- Grade: Band 8a
- Salary: £58,698 - £65,095 per annum (inclusive of HCAS)

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- BSCCP accreditation
- Mentorship module or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years experience as Nurse Colposcopist
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
Desirable criteria
- Educated to a Masters level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development.
- Trained Hysteroscopist
- Leadership Development Programme
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience as a BSCCP accredited nurse colposcopist
- Demonstrates a caring and sensitive approach to woman centred care
- Change management experience
Desirable criteria
- Basic counselling Skills
- Leadership and motivational skills

Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
