St James recovery Team Leader - Band 7
We are looking for an RN or ODP to take on a role of the Team leader for the inpatient recovery team at at St. George’s Hospital. Our mission is to deliver outstanding care at all times to patients treated in our operating theatres and to do that, we need exceptional people.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will have the prime responsibility for leading the team, working to promote a positive culture of collaborative working, providing professional leadership and skilled knowledge.
Working alongside our other team leaders, reporting to the Matron, your duties will include but not limited to leading clinical shifts, investigating adverse incidents, planning and implementing actions to ensure learning is shared across the department, undertaking quality audits, roster management, budget management and recruitment. You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities necessary to lead a safe, productive and efficient cardiothoracic team. As a key member of the team, you will have the ability to support, teach and develop junior staff and facilitate the delivery of high standards of patient care in the operating theatres. You will be a team player, empathetic and able to remain calm and composed under pressure. This role also requires reassuring manner and the understanding of the rights, privacy & dignity and safeguarding of all patients.

Person specification
Qualification and Training
Essential criteria
- NMC Level 1 Registered Nurse/Operating
- Department Practitioner
- Diploma in a health related training
- Mentorship or equivalent teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
- Relevant post registration qualification
- Working towards an MSc
Experience
Essential criteria
- RN (general)/ODP
- Minimum of four years post registration experience, of which 2 years within theatres at Band 6 level
- Evidence of leadership roles & skills
- Managing change at unit & department level
- Evidence of managing staff and dealing with difficult situations
Desirable criteria
- In depth computer skills
Skills and Knowladge
Essential criteria
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent oral & written communication skills
- Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers,
- Clear MDT approach to care
- Ability to work independently & within the team
- Ability to carry out audits
Desirable criteria
- Attended a clinical leadership programme
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and Professional issues
- Understanding of audit, research, evidence based nursing practice and clinical governance
