Job overview
The Quality Matron is an integral part of the Corporate Nursing Team. They are responsible for providing clinical leadership, specialist knowledge and support for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals to promote the quality and accreditation agenda across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
· Leads and facilitates Trust-wide quality initiatives to achieve the organisation’s Quality Strategy.
- Supports Corporate and Divisional Nursing & Midwifery, AHP, and management teams in meeting objectives related to clinical quality, safety, workforce, service delivery, and financial control.
- Promotes a patient-centred culture throughout the nursing and midwifery workforce.
- Leads the Trust Accreditation Programme to improve the quality of patient care with a focus on safe and effective outcomes.
- Expands and develops the accreditation programme, maintaining standards in line with national and local requirements.
- Supports areas working towards the Blue StARS standard.
- Acts as a visible, proactive, and accessible professional lead and resource in nursing and quality matters.
- Leads nursing initiatives, programmes of improvement, and transformation efforts for patient safety and outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Communications
· Ensures effective communication channels between patients & stakeholders at all levels.
· Uses appropriate strategies to guarantee clear communication & information presentation.
· Develops and submits reports to Trust Groups and Committees, providing assurance on Patient Safety and Quality initiatives.
· Ensures patients and families are treated with dignity and respect and information is presented accessibly.
· Oversees the fitness for purpose of nursing documentation, revising and auditing as needed.
· Works collaboratively with teams on investigations, resolutions, and action planning.
· Addresses problems, concerns, and complaints at source, escalating when necessary.
Responsibility for Patient Care
· Maintains visibility in clinical areas & participates in Ward Accreditation audits.
· Promotes a culture of continuous quality improvement & formally evaluates standards of care.
· Leads remedial actions & nursing developments based on audit findings.
· Ensures Nursing Policies and Procedures are fit for purpose, revised, and audited for effectiveness.
· Encourages evidence-based practice within an inter-disciplinary framework.
· Acts as a patient and staff advocate, applying ethical, legal, and professional knowledge in practice.
· Fosters a culture of challenging and reporting sub-standard practice.
· Supports patients, service users, carers, & relatives during incidental contacts.
· Oversees development, delivery, & monitoring of patient care across the Trust.
· Monitors quality and timeliness of nursing care and service provision according to standards.
· Manages discharge plans, transfers, and provides senior nursing advice.
· Participates in the Senior Professional Cover Rota for evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
· Supports staff in appropriate resource distribution and smooth running of clinical areas.
· Ensures the patient care environment is clean, well-ordered, and maintained.
Planning and organising
· Plans day-to-day workload to meet job demands.
· Investigates clinical incidents and complaints as directed, ensuring effective risk management.
· Supports assessment, planning, implementation, provision, and evaluation of patient care.
· Revise, implement, maintain, monitor, and improve nursing and corporate standards as needed.
· Develops and monitors action plans for Trust Accreditation.
· Contributes to the strategic direction of service lines and specialities via key performance indicators and targets.
· Supports management teams to ensure effective patient flow when appropriate.
Responsibilities for Physical and / or Financial Resources
· Ensures safe and efficient use of equipment, resources, and consumables.
· Manages pay and non-pay resources in accordance with corporate standards, policies, and objectives.
· Partners with facilities and estates colleagues to meet national cleaning and performance standards.
· Participates in audits, research, and changes as required.
· Responsible for departmental asset use & security, including IT initiatives.
Responsibility for Policy and Service Development and Implementation
· Participates in policy, process, and business plan development at Division and Service level.
· Provides nursing expertise and advice in business and operational meetings and forums.
· Communicates service requirements to relevant teams, managers, and directors.
· Actively engages in changes to policies, procedures, and service developments.
· Initiates and implements change responding to clinical or organisational demands.
· Collaborates with other organisations, commissioners, and agencies for development opportunities.
If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
