Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced or newly qualified staff nurse to join our medical ward, Wilson  Ward . It is a 24 bedded, mixed gender ward caring for acutely unwell patients with varied conditions. Ward Wilson  is a busy environment  treating patients with a wide variety of conditions. This would be an excellent opportunity to gain a broad nursing experience. We are looking for a talented nurse to contribute to our mission of providing high-quality healthcare to our patients. 

You will ensure the smooth running of the ward as to safe admission, transfer, and discharge of patients and must be committed to providing a high standard of nursing care and have the drive to want to make a difference to patient care. We work closely  with both Consultants, Specialist Nurses and the wider MDT. 

Wilson Ward is a great opportunity for; compassionate, enthusiastic and highly motivated nurses who are interested in working on a busy acute ward, with an intention to develop their clinical and leadership skills. Applicants will be supported and encouraged to develop their leadership style and develop towards future goals.

We also welcome newly qualified nurses, we provide a rich environment in which to begin your nursing career with a robust preceptorship programme. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of patient care in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process. Act as a mentor/preceptor to junior staff, with specific responsibility for pre-registration students. The post holder will take delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical team and the maintenance of high standards of quality patient care on a shift basis.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration – Registered Nurse Degree or Diploma
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching Qualification Degree level 6 study Diploma

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff.
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing skills/ability
  • Awareness of clinical Audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence undertaking a mentor/preceptor role
  • Experience in relevant area of practice

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of current nursing issues
  • Knowledge of clinical governance
  • IT/ Word Processing
