Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to develop a Sexual Health Advisor position within The Urmston Clinic. This role is currently done by the specialist sexual health nurses, but we are looking to recruit a full time Sexual Health Advisor to lead and develop this.

The Health Advisor role is a unique chance to expand your scope of practice within a supportive, multidisciplinary team in The Northern Sexual Health Service. If needed the post can be offered as a Band 5 training to Band 6.

Main duties of the job

You will paly a key role in delivering holistic, person-centered care including:

  • Working autonomously following local and national guidance
  • Partner notification and risk reduction interventions
  • Treating STIs and having good knowledge of window periods
  • Supporting patients newly diagnosed with HIV
  • Results management and administrative Health Advisor duties
  • Health promotion and education
  • Working closely with the multidisciplinary team

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or Midwife.
  • At least 12 months experience in the speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised competencies in health advising.
  • STIF Competencies
  • Non-Medical Prescriber.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Sensitivity and confidence when handling sensitive and complicated diagnosis, social and care issues
  • Non-judgemental and works in line with equality and diversity
  • Evidence of using electronic health records.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to issue medications via patient group directions
  • Experience of working in nurse led clinics.
  • Experience of working with 3rd sector
  • Leadership experience at band 6 level.
