Stockport NHS Foundation Trust aims to be the organisation of choice for patients and an employer of choice for staff. In order to continually improve all aspects of our patient experience, we rely upon having a highly skilled, motivated, diverse, productive and patient focused workforce.

Stockport Foundation Trust is one of four ‘specialist’ hospital sites in Greater Manchester. Being a ‘specialist’ hospital will enhance our general surgery, anaesthetics, critical care and emergency medicine for the benefit of people in Stockport, High Peak, Cheshire and across Greater Manchester.

In your application for this post, please describe how your experience and skills align with 'Our values-based behaviours' ( see additional documentation) and provide examples.

Job overview

Please note that whilst the trust does offer sponsorship this role is unfortunately not eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Health and Care Worker | Skilled Worker Route  visa route. This is due to the position not meeting the minimum salary threshold of £41,000 per annum and/or the required skill level set by UK Visas and Immigration.

Pre-Operative Assessment is a nurse-led service at the heart of the elective surgical pathway, ensuring patients are appropriately assessed and prepared for surgery. Within this role, you will provide comprehensive administrative and pathway coordination support, working closely with nursing, medical, operational and administrative colleagues to ensure patients progress safely and efficiently through their pre-operative journey. You will also provide reception cover where required.

You will be responsible for monitoring patient pathways, coordinating appointments, investigations and outstanding clinical requirements, and ensuring service targets are met. The role involves regular communication with patients, waiting list teams, diagnostic departments and clinical staff, acting as a key point of contact throughout the pathway. Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills are essential, together with the ability to work independently, prioritise a varied workload and adapt to the demands of a busy but rewarding environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Monitor patient pathways using digital systems, identifying outstanding actions, potential delays and ensuring patients progress safely towards surgery.
  • Coordinate and book pre-operative assessment appointments, investigations and diagnostic tests within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise with patients, nursing teams, waiting list staff, clinicians and diagnostic departments to facilitate timely completion of pathway requirements.
  • Act as a key point of contact for patients, responding to telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Maintain accurate patient information and upload documentation to the appropriate NHS systems, ensuring data quality and confidentiality at all times.
  • Identify and escalate pathway delays, risks or concerns to the System/Admin Manager and nursing team as appropriate.
  • Provide reception cover within the department, welcoming patients and supporting the smooth running of clinic services.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust, providing cross-cover and contributing to the delivery of a high-quality service.
  • Support the department with administrative duties, case note tracking, audit activity and continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with Trust policies, information governance requirements and mandatory training obligations
