The post holder will provide specialist support and advice to patients with diagnosed OMFS  Cancer, working alongside the other Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide a comprehensive specialist nursing service. The post holder will provide clinical expertise and support for patients and families, from diagnosis through investigations, treatments, living with and beyond cancer and palliation.

As a key member of the OMFS Cancer CNS team provide continuity, support and information from diagnosis, through treatments and ongoing support. Referring to specialist support services as necessary. Undertake holistic assessment and care of the patients across multiple hospital settings as required,( outpatient, inpatient, day case,) working effectively with the trusts Macmillan Coordinator. planning, delivering and assessing Health and Well being Events. As a key member of the Cancer CNS team understand and adopt the shared caseload philosophy of the team. Work alongside the specialist multidisciplinary teams and attend MDT meetings at other hospital sites Enhance knowledge and competency to become an expert practitioner in the specialist field of head and neck cancer and symptom management as required. Run nurse led clinics for both tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients. Demonstrating expert knowledge and practical skills. Within this clinic, be able to assess and recognize emergencies and take appropriate actions to ensure patient safety. Structure appropriate teaching sessions for surgical patients and their families. Work alongside and develop expertise in relation to the work of the MDT members Support the telephone triage service.

  • Teaching/assessing qualification
  • Post registration qualification in cancer or equivalent knowledge

  • Certificate in counselling Qualification
  • Masters or working towards masters in related subject
  • Nurse Prescribing
  • Clinical Skills Training

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience working at Band 6 level with demonstrable management and leadership skills
  • Experience of working with patients with OMFS Cancers
  • Portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice/speciality
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Evidence in leading, teaching, and mentoring learners
  • Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory and acquired by CPD
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of programmes of care, protocols and audit

  • Experience within the speciality
