Job overview

Our Tissue Viability Team provides specialist care to patients at risk of or who already have pressure ulcers, leg ulcers and other complex wounds, and plays a key role in promoting and educating colleagues in pressure ulcer prevention, tissue viability and wound care. 

We are looking for someone with specialist tissue viability knowledge, experience and expertise in wound care service delivery wishing to utilise and expand their existing knowledge and skills in a senior role in our team.

Under the guidance of The Tissue Viability Matron you will be responsible for contributing to the corporate tissue viability strategic agenda,  managing and leading the Tissue viability service and team at site level and be required to provide/ lead direct patient assessment and care in relation to Tissue viability needs alongside your managerial responsibilities.

This is a 22.5 hours post working primarily Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on the Royal Liverpool hospital Site.

Main duties of the job

Lead and manage  delivery of  Tissue Viability services on the Royal and Broadgreen sites.

To provide specialist tissue viability advice, support, education and training to patients, carers and health care professionals based on knowledge of relevant evidence, current research, good practice guidance and policy development from DH, NMC and other national and professional organisations.

To act as resource of expert advice, carry own case load and provide coordination of care from diagnosis, treatment and follow up care. 

To provide clinical leadership and develop patient centred evidence-based care to positively affect patient outcomes.

To develop, promote, advance and monitor standards of care following national guidelines and ensure all national data requirements are collected.

To work collaboratively with internal and outside services, as well as all members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide leadership to the site TV team to ensure that the service is delivered effectively and within budget.

In line with trust policies provide  day to day line management of the site Tissue Viability team, including appraisals,  monitoring of attendance, sickness, mandatory training and professional registration of team members. 

To promote clear, concise and specific documentation in relation to tissue viability issues in order for positive outcomes and purposes of audit.

To review and respond to clinical incident reports of pressure ulcers and attend site pressure ulcer meetings.

To contribute and represent the site at  corporate meetings related to service. 

To review and filter electronic referrals for Tissue Viability services  , responding within an agreed framework and delegation of referrals  to self and other team members including referrals from the Broadgreen site.   

Support the role of the site Tissue Viability Assistant Practitioner. 

To undertake duties as delegated by and work collaboratively with Tissue Viability Matron  to deliver the  Corporate Tissue Viability agenda including contributing to setting standards,  policy and  service development and management of resources. 

To lead, coordinate and participate in site resource projects and awareness campaigns e.g MASD awareness and stop the pressure days. 

To participate in the Tissue Viability  training  and education  plan as appropriate for  trust staff at all levels.

Where the post holder has particular expertise, act as adviser/resource person to other staff across all sites.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Post reg qualification in tissue viability
  • First level degree
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised masters degree qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of clinical experience in tissue viability or related field
  • Demonstrable experience in service development and implementation of change
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching and assessing in clinical practice
  • Ability to manage a quality tissue viability service
