We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated, ambitious and experienced nurse to take on the role of a Looked After Children’s Nurse,
supporting our Cared for Children in Cheshire East.
This is a varied and unique role for a practitioner with clinical expertise relating to safeguarding children and young people.
Main duties of the job
To support the Specialist Nurses Looked after Children to provide a safe and effective health service to children and young people
looked after by local authorities and placed within the local authority boundary of Cheshire East.
• To support the Named Nurse in developing the service and adopting best practice methods of service delivery to ensure that national
and local guidelines and requirements are met.
• Provide specialist advice, support and training on Safeguarding Children to all WCT staff; taking a leading role in matters relating to the
health and wellbeing of looked after children.
• Work as part of the Integrated multi-agency team, ensuring that the Safeguarding Strategy is implemented across the borough and
ensure that all practitioners can access advice and support about health needs of children and young people.
• Work as part of the Multi agency Team to ensure that the views of children and young people, and healthcare workers in linked services
can influence the development of Cared for Children clinical practice within East Cheshire
• To work collaboratively with the multi-agency team, contributing to information sharing from across the local health economy including
primary and secondary care to inform risk assessments, care planning and decision making

Essential criteria
- Excellent inter-personal skills including negotiation, influencing and presentation skills

- Ability to make sound judgements regarding the welfare of children, demonstrating confidence in professional view and analysis.
- Ability to plan interagency interventions for children and families.
- Ability to influence, motivate and negotiate with others

- Ability to prioritise workload/work within and meet deadlines

- Confidence to challenge traditional practice and persistence to address difficult issues
- IT literate
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 3 years post registration experience as Health Visitor, School Nurse or RSCN, with significant experience of Safeguarding Children processes
- Sound working knowledge of Community Health Care provision
- Awareness of the legislative framework underpinning children’s health provision, safeguarding children and looked after children
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate assessment of needs of children and interventions required to safeguard children
- Participation in developments in practice.
- Experience of facilitating and delivering training to colleagues
- Ability to manage potentially hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive atmospheres, disseminating unwelcome information in a sensitive manner.
- Ability to prioritise workload and sound personal organisational skills.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties
Qualificantions and professional training
Essential criteria
- RGN/RN/RSCN/RM
- Portfolio of evidence demonstrating continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Nursing Degree or allied health practitioner equivalent
- Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse or RSCN
- Teaching and or Mentorship qualification
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Flexibility in work patterns
- Ability to balance work/home life
