An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and highly motivated Healthcare Assistants to join our Theatre teams
The responsibilities would include working as part of a team alongside the clinical staff in the department to ensure efficient running of the theatres.
Please note, this vacancy may close early should a sufficient amount of applications be received.
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide assistance with patient care to all members of the theatre team
- To participate in keeping all theatres are clean, tidy and stocked up.
- To participate in keeping all other areas of theatre suite clean and tidy
- Assist in the maintenance of good communication channels within the department and other areas within the Trust.
- To act as a role model and contribute to the development of others.
- To act as a circulating member of the theatre team as per Theatre Policy, including checking of swabs, instruments, and sharps.
- To escort patient into theatre as per Theatre Policy.
- To work collaboratively with the peri-operative team to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- To assist with decontamination and sterilization procedures
- To assist Theatre staff in ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) and the principles of COSHH. To be aware of the Trusts’ Risk Management Strategy and to follow trust policy in relation to Environmental Risk Management and the reporting of accidents and incidents.
- To be aware of his/her duties and responsibilities in relation to Clinical Risk Management
- To maintain awareness of Trust Policies and Procedures
- To assist in the care and maintenance of equipment reporting any faults or hazards appropriately
- To ensure all items for disposal are correctly bagged and labelled before transfer to central collection area, to include undertaking duties in back corridor.
- To assist patient comfort and dignity is maintained at all times, and to provide reassurance and support to patients, visitors and carers.
- To assist staff transferring patients according to Manual Handling Guidelines and Policies
- To assist in specimen collection and delivery as per Trust policy
- To liaise with theatre reception and ward staff when requesting patients. To communicate with all other departments, answering telephones and taking messages relaying them to senior personnel.
- To assist in stock rotation in sterile stores and theatres and undertake role of store-person in their absence.
- To cover the reception desk, collecting Theatre data, sending for patients, and using the Galaxy theatre system.
