Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

We are looking to recruit Band 5 RN’s to our EAU/ACU team.

We are a 24hr fast moving and challenging unit, caring for predominantly medical and emergency admissions. We also accept admissions from other specialities including general surgery, orthopaedics and urology.
Within our department we have two areas, both of which are designed to meet the needs of acute admissions/referrals.

- 22 inpatient assessment beds, where patients are assessed by the relevant team and a decision is made to either admit to a specialty ward or discharge home.
-6 assessment trolleys within the Ambulatory Care Unit. This is a recently re-designed service within a newly refurbished area on our unit. This unit is rapidly expanding and offers a range of treatments and services.

Our main source of patient is A&E, outpatient clinics and other health care professionals, directly onto our unit. The aim of the unit is to provide initial assessment and treatment of patients, with timely transfer to specialist wards or discharge.

We have an innovative team incorporating, 5 acute care physicians, two consultant nurses and an experienced nursing team. With the support of an excellent multi-disciplinary team including staff from pharmacy, critical care outreach, specialist nurses and therapy staff to name but a few. The team works together to provide a safe and supportive environment to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.

We are looking for band 5 RN’s who are committed, motivated, and ready for challenge within a busy yet supportive environment. Experience within an urgent care environment would be an advantage but is not essential. We are a physically and sometimes emotionally demanding place to work, but the job is equally rewarding. There is an excellent work ethic within the team and support from team members will always be available.
