Job overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an exceptional and enthusiastic Band 3 Clinical Support Worker, with an interest in Gynaecology to become an integral member of our team in the Women's and Children's Gynaecology Outpatient Department. Gynaecology experience is desirable but not essential.

The role will involve supporting registered Nurses and Doctors in caring for Women attending outpatient appointments. This is a fast-paced procedural outpatient department and includes general Gynaecology clinics, Rapid access, Oncology, Colposcopy, Urogynaecology, Fertility, Endometriosis and Pre operative assessment. There also will be time that you will support the inpatient Gynaecology area.  

Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Registered Nurse / Clinician in administering direct patient care
  • Communicate clearly with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Communication with patients including discussion on patient comfort and safety and recording of communications on Wirral Millennium
  • Prioritising own workload
  • Inform qualified staff of changes in patients’ condition or observations 
  • Escort and chaperone patients as appropriate
  • Communicate with patients/carers taking into consideration the needs of the individual
  • Undertake some clerical duties such as filing 
  • Undertake ordering of supplies, within agreed stock levels, ensuring stored correctly 
  • Ensure availability, cleanliness and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist in the safe handling of patient’s valuables and property
  • Adhere to Wirral Hospital objectives, policies, protocols and guidelines
  • Report any concerns or anxieties that patients disclose to the appropriate health care professional in charge of patient care
  • Participate in ward safety huddles and raise concerns as required.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of competence in relevant specialist skills or tasks
  • Knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of a Clinical Support Worker
  • Previous experience and training of manual handling patients using appropriate equipment
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of the importance of promoting patient independence
Desirable criteria
  • Able to provide support and reassurance to patients.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-Level’s, NVQ3) in Health & Social Care
  • A good standard of education to A-Level standard and the agreement to undertake the relevant Level 3 qualification on appointment.
  • Experience working in a clinical environment an undertaking a range of relevant clinical skills with proven competencies.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in the NHS
