Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the midwifery preceptorship programme, supporting the transition from student to newly qualified midwife.

Acting as a role model, you will provide support for the preceptee midwives as they consolidate their learning and skills. As a member of the education team, you will work with the preceptee midwives to enhance their experience, build confidence and establish a strong foundation for their future career.

The overall function of this post is to lead the delivery of a high-quality preceptorship programme within the Trust for all midwifery preceptors. Developing and delivering a quality programme supporting leadership development, clinical skills and simulation.

To develop a process to support those registrants who are new to Trust to reduce duplication of training.

The post holder will be required to work closely with recruits to provide a robust model of pastoral support and act as a coach, mentor and supportive listener.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have an enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.

Person specification

Qualifications, specific experience and training

Essential criteria
  • Registered midwife with a minimum of 5 years clinical practice
  • Relevant Degree
  • Postgraduate qualification related to education
  • Completion of masters or willing to work towards
  • Experience of delivering education within a healthcare setting
  • Clinical Supervision
  • Practice Assessor/ Supervisor for NMC registrants only
