Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for competent individuals to join the team in Eye Clinic at Arrowe Park Hospital.
The Eye Clinic at Arrowe Park is the largest outpatient department in the hospital, seeing 65,000 patients a year.
Due to changes in treatment and an ageing population the demand in ophthalmology is constantly rising. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and someone that enjoys working in busy, fast paced environments.
Main duties of the job
- Assist the registered nurses in the delivery of high quality patient care and the general wellbeing and comfort of patients
- Maintain accurate records of the patient’s care, documenting as appropriate in line with Trust, professional and departmental guidelines
- Undertake a range of delegated clinical duties relevant to the speciality and your current training and competence profile, as outlined in the clinical competency matrix within the attached job description
- To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the registered professional who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care
- Appropriately support patients with routine personal care needs
- Promote privacy and dignity for all patients
- Act as a chaperone; accompanying patients during examinations or when requested to provide some support
- Assessment of clinic patients, including visual acuity, pressure checks, colour vision checks and observations

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-Level’s, NVQ3) in Health & Social Care OR a good standard of education to A-Level standard and the agreement to undertake the relevant Level 3 qualification on appointment.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in the NHS
- Experience working in a clinical environment an undertaking a range of relevant clinical skills with proven competencies.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of competence in relevant specialist skills or tasks
- Knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of a Clinical Support Worker
- Previous experience and training of manual handling patients using appropriate equipment
- Can demonstrate an understanding of the importance of promoting patient independence
Desirable criteria
- Able to provide support and reassurance to patients.
