Job overview
A registered nurse/Allied Health practitioner with highly developed knowledge, skills and clinical expertise in acute medical care. The advanced clincial practitioner will provide clinical support to the existing junior medical staff and work in conjunction with the consultants in the Emergency Department, the overall aim being to improve quality of care and health outcomes for patients.
• To provide professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues.
• To deliver sensitive evidence based patient care to a specific case load of patients
• To maintain clinical excellence underpinned by evidence based practice.
• Undertake clinical audit and participate in research and development.
• Demonstrate effective clinical leadership.
• Specialise in providing all encompassing individualised care.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrate competence in clinical, diagnostic and examination skills making recommendations for management of patients
Make clinical judgements using complex information and analytical skills (including interpretation of results) taking appropriate action
Identify appropriate patients for assessment, diagnosis and treatment by the ACP without reference to a doctor
Ensure documentation is kept updated in line with the Trust and the NMC clinical governance standard
Make autonomous, professional decisions for which the ACP is accountable
Undertake learning through self directed learning, bedside teaching and protected postgraduate teaching
Initiate and undertake preliminary investigations, under agreed protocols following clinical assessment
Implement decisions made by senior medical staff
Undertake advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
Independently perform clinical review and formulate individual management plans
Make appropriate referrals to specialties and professions allied to medicine to allow disposal of ED patients
Undertake research and audit within the service as required
Develop practice-based protocols to lead advanced level of professional practice in care
Implement and undertake training programme
Act as a educator, facilitator and role model to nursing and junior medical staff
Advocate health promotion strategies and modification of lifestyles/behaviour for the prevention of deterioration in disease process
Undertake verification of deaths in the ED

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- The post holder will be a registered nurse (NMC) or allied health professional (HCPC) with at least 5 years post registration experience
- Have completed an MSc in Advanced practice
- Have completed the non-medical Prescriber's Course (V300)
- Maintain Advanced Life Support provider qualification
- Attained qualification in clinical examination and clinical diagnostics

- Critically analyse research and apply robust evidence-based information to clinical practice
- Achieve competence in specific clinical skills under medical supervision
