The post holder will work with the Lead Midwife for Treating Tobacco Dependence, and other key members of the maternity team, to deliver evidence-based behavioural support and treatment to a caseload of pregnant women who are tobacco dependent, in a variety of clinical settings, using the support of interventions such as Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
This role is intended to tackle the health inequalities that arise from addiction and the post holder will be an integral member of the maternity team, working alongside Midwives, Obstetricians, and other Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), to deliver safe and individualised care in a flexible and innovative manner.
Main duties of the job
- The Trust provides maternity services for the women of St Helens, Knowsley and Halton.
- The Smokefree Pregnancy Practitioner accepts the role as stated above.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE level English and Mathematics or equivalent qualification/Experience
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in health-related studies OR substantial successful experience delivering stop smoking interventions and support.
Desirable criteria
- NCSCT trained Stop Smoking Practitioner.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing healthcare advice or promoting healthy lifestyle advice to patients or members of the public.
- Experience of working in health, social care and other support roles in direct contact with people, families or carers (in a paid or voluntary capacity).
- Experience of providing help, support and/or counselling on either a one-to-one basis or as part of a group setting.
- Experience of working within multi-professional team environments.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of delivering tobacco dependence treatment.
- Experience of working in maternity services.
- Experience of developing and delivering successful health promotion interventions.
- Experience of data collection and using tools to measure impact of services.
