Job overview

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Skin Cancer Team, as a Macmillan Skin Cancer Specialist Nurses within the Medical Division. This is a full-time, 24 month fixed term position covering Monday to Friday.  As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide education and specialist advice to patients, their carers and staff on specific care and treatments. The CNS will support from diagnosis through treatment and throughout the cancer journey. Using advanced communication and psychological assessment skills the CNS will aim to assess and alleviate the psychological distress for cancer patients and their families, including identification of need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines as appropriate. 

You will act as a valuable resource for the MDT and  set standards of care, influence the work of other professional groups and act as a change agent. Post-registration experience in skin cancer/dermatology care and/or cancer/palliative care is essential.  You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisational skills & basic IT skills. Previous experience working with CERNER is an advantage.  You must have experience of working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise your workload. 

Main duties of the job

An extensive background in dermatology or cancer nursing is essential for this role, along with a proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. The post holder must demonstrate excellent communication skills, strong clinical judgement, and the ability to prioritise a demanding workload in a fast-paced environment. Basic IT proficiency is required, and prior experience using CERNER is highly desirable.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will use advanced communication and psychological assessment skills to ensure that each cancer patient receives a personalised care plan, tailored to their individual needs. This includes the timely identification of patients who require onward referral to other services, professionals, or support networks.

The role also involves providing specialist education, advice, and support to patients, their carers, and healthcare colleagues in relation to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of skin cancer.

The ability to demonstrate enhanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills is fundamental to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care within this specialist area.
