Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic registered nurse with the passion to develop and deliver high-quality stroke care for the Wirral population.
The ideal candidate should be able to work autonomously and has freedom to act in prioritising and co-coordinating patients assessments , referrals and reviews.
Stroke Department at WUTH provides the following stroke services:
- Hyper-acute and acute stroke services with agreed pathway and protocols
- 24/7 stroke Thrombolysis & for further assessment for thrombectomy in Walton
- Dedicated Nurse Triage TIA clinics
- Daily outpatient clinics
- Stroke rehabilitation unit at Clatterbridge Hospital and Early Supported Discharge
- Stroke research service
Main duties of the job
- To provide, to a high standard of care with skilled management and care delivery of neurovascular conditions from admission to discharge in Wirral teaching hospital.
- To work with stroke colleagues to support the development of in stroke service.
- To work with group of stroke nursing team to assess & provide and support with thrombolysis and thrombectomy service.
- Have a lead role in the coordination of all stroke &TIA.
- To provide extend scope of practice and act as an expert resource, providing clinical expertise and leadership.
- To participate and conduct stroke audit to support service improvement.
- Work as lead role in the education and development of hyper acute
- care & rehabilitation .
- To demonstrate a high level of complex decision making in relation to assessment, planning and intervention and evaluation in patient care.
- Act as clinical leader, role model and is instrumental in setting standards for stroke care.
- Line management duties for a team of clinical stroke coordinators .

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have an enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.

- Current NMC Registration and evidence of post-registration training
- Master’s degree
- Hold a relevant qualification in stroke care/management
- Significant post qualification experience in stroke clinical area
- Clinical Skills qualification
- Independent prescriber
- Evidence of professional updating

- Evidence of service development and the ability to implement change
- Ability to provide assessment, planning and implement management of stroke
- Experience of teaching in a variety of formal and informal settings
Desirable criteria
- Training in nationally recognise advanced communication skills
